Beware of the documentation! When was the last time you used the product documentation that did not run into 500-1000 pages, and you got the information in the format you wanted and in the location you thought you would get it? Did you feel like searching for the information like searching for water in the dreary desert where most of the time you stumbled upon mirages than the oasis? Was the information too long or too short or just as you required? The reason I am asking these question is some kind of a soul searching exercise I thought of undertaking after I spent close to a decade in technical communication. I must confess that I have written many a brochures that banked more on the slang and tongue twisters in absence of the real value benefit that should have been conveyed or was just a cover up as the services or products offered were same as that of competitors.
